You are now able to login using your Steam credentials if you'd like. If you've ever used the Facebook style login, this is the same idea really. There is a button to click when you are logged out for Steam. If you click it, you authenticate at Steam, then you can associate your JFF account with that login.
JFF has no way of knowing your Steam password, etc.. as you authenticate at Steam, then we get the authorization success message and let you log in. So, it's safe and entirely up to you if you'd like to use it. It's just another easy way to log in and not have to maintain another account login.
